Q: Does the Cutlass Supreme sedan and coupe use the same brakes?
I’m about to buy and Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL, 1997. I need to get new back brakes on both sides, and I was wondering if the sedan model and the coupe model used the same ones, since i’m buying them online instead of from a mechanic.

A: Inside the steering column under the steering wheel. Assuming there are no problems with the wiring, it could also be a defective flasher. That is usually behind the glove compartment, but not always.

A: Ada its best if you take it to a shop . even if you have tools and a jack.. if you overtighten the bearings or dont install the seal correctly or something goes wrong even worse what if the car falls of the jack .. what then think about all the safety involved do you have safety stands do u have insurance incase some thing does happen consider all facts

I have a 1987 cutlass supreme coupe oldsmobile that his been sitting in my yard for over 15 years. I know it would take a lot of cash to fix it up but I know i can get the engine running at least. A: this is not a job you want to do yourself. if you are going to do yourself, the tools are going to cost as much as just taking it to a service shop.

A: well in my opinion junk.but hey if you wanna spend the money ok.first junk or sell the engine and tranny.get a oldsmobile 455 rocket engine and tranny.mount in.take your rear differential apart and pull out the ring and pinion gear.replace with new ones at a gear ration of 4.11.now buy headers for your engine and a performance intake and bigger holley carb.preferably 1250 cfms.now depending on year of car and where you live,bolt a 4.5 to 5 inch collector on your headers and run 4.5 to 5 inch exhaust strait back to the bumper without making any bends.no mufflers or cats.now if you did all these properly you should be able to roll your tires off the wheels in the back.but the main thing you really shud do is when you get that 455 if you plan to go that way have it proffessionally rebuilt .30 over standard bore.follow these instructions and youll have one hell of a bad ass car.

Q: How do I change a headlight bulb on a 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass?
I am trying to help a friend of mine change his headlight bulb (just the bulb, not the whole assembly). He has a 1997 Olds Cutlass, and we’re not sure how to gain access to the bulb. The headlight assembly has metal plates behind it, so we don’t have direct access to the bulb. I’ve never come across a vehicle that doesn’t offere easy direct access to the bulb. I’m thinking we’re going to have to pull the whole headlight assembly forward in order to get to the bulb, but we’re not exactly sure how.

Come to think of it, this also brings up the question: How many automotive novices does it take to change a headlight bulb?

A: On this car there is a bulkhead behind the headlight assembly which prohibits normal access to the bulbs. You need to remove the assembly from the front to get at the bulbs.

This is actually pretty easy and should be described in your owners manual. If you don’t have that just look for two plastic tabs that push down from the top to secure the headlight assembly in place. Pull those up and the whole thing should slide right out. Then just reach for the bulb, give it a little turn and pull it out.

i am starting to fix up a 72 cutlass my dad passed down to me. but im only 19 and dont know too much about cars but really want to learn. im just wondering how much hp it has and if i can make it stronger and run faster.

A: There were a variety of 350 engines available, so without knowing exactly which one you have, it’s impossible to say how much power it has.

As far as faster and stronger…there’s thousands of websites on how to build up engines…try searching.

A: take the rotor out of the distributor or just pull the coil wire

Hi, I have a 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL Coupe. The hood release cable has slipped out of where it was attached to the latch (at the front end of the car) and now the hood wont open. I need to find a way that I can manually open the hood without the cable.

Ive already got under it but my hands are too big to fit into the small area where the latch is.

A: Reach up between grill and radiator and trip the latch.May need pliers or screw driver but is doable.

Long needle nose pliers (maybe).Only other way I’ve solved this problem is pull radiator but that can be a major hassle and a lot of work.

There is a hole that cable connects to latch so may be able to hook wire coat hanger (take it apart and stretch it) in to that hole and pull.Hope these suggestions work so you don’t have to pull radiator.

Q: What are some good performance mods for 1969 cutlass?
What are some good performance modifications for a 1969 cutlass S. It has a 350 ci and a 4-bbl carb, any ideas? Also my budget is in the $300-$600 range. Something that will get my hp up, thanks.

A: There are modifications that you can make but a 69 350 Olds 4bbl is pretty nice stock. Keep it well tuned up and it will run good and sound better. I suggest that you don’t mess with it too much.
